Vietnam’s weather ranges from a familiar four-season system in the north to eternal summer in the south. Because of regional variation, there are pleasant places to visit in Vietnam throughout the year.

Currency and Money

When coming to Vietnam you will be a wealthy person, a millionaire. The exchange rate for the Vietnam Dong (VND) (at the time of writing) is at about: 1 US dollar = 23.300 VND, 1 EUR = 26.710 VND, this means 100 USD and 100 EUR are worth more than 2 million dongs. You should exchange small denominations notes as 10.000, 20.000, 50.000, 100.000 and 200.000 to be easy to spend in Vietnam.
Where to Change Your Money
Major currencies can be exchanged practically anywhere in Vietnam, but not all exchange facilities are created equal. Banks and airport money changers can change your money at a high cost relative to a jewelry shop.
Banks: The government-run Vietcombank can exchange dong for US dollars, Euros, British Pounds, Japanese Yen, Thai Baht, and Singapore dollars. Banks in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will let you change foreign currencies and most travelers’ checks. You’ll be charged a commission rate of between 0.5 to 2 percent for the latter.
Always bring new notes; any damaged or dirty notes will be charged an additional two percent of the note’s face value.
Hotels: Your mileage may vary with hotels: larger hotels can offer rates competitive with banks’, but smaller hotels (like those in the Old Quarter of Hanoi) may tack on an additional fee for the service.

Luggages, Clothes And Footwear

As you know, there are 3 regions in Vietnam and each region has its own kind of weather. The North and Northern Central is hot in summer and cold in winter while the South and Southern Central are hot and wet during the year and particularly chilly in the evening. Therefore you should choose clothes being suitable for each area.
It’s also important to remember that Vietnam is a Buddhism Beliefs country; it won’t be respectful to wear super short-shorts, mid-riff baring outfits, and very low-cut tops to visit pagodas and temple here, for example.
– Pack plenty of breathable cotton shirts, shorts, and skirts.
– Pack flowing cotton skirts and cotton dresses, preferably mid-thigh and longer.
– Consider packing vest/singlet tops as well as t-shirts and blouses too, if you like.
– Make sure you pack comfortable footwear as you’ll spend a lot of time walking; you’ll need a pair of sneakers as well as comfortable flats and sandals.
– Bring a hat or two as well as sunglasses and sunscreen.
– Pack an umbrella, not just for the rain, but to shield you from the sun if you’re out for long periods of time.
– Be sure to pack your swimwear, kaftans and any other beach appropriate gear if you’re heading to coastal areas.
– You may want to pack a few ‘nice’ outfits for special dinners or nights out, there are some really gorgeous outdoor restaurants to experience.
– If you’re visiting the northern parts of Vietnam, consider packing a light jumper, cardigan or scarf to cover your shoulders as the evenings get quite cool. Depending on the time of year you visit, you may also need to pack warmer gear and jeans.
